Bring on the Polka

Now I'm not a big polka fan. However I do like one. It all probably goes back to my grandfather. He loved the big band era. And because of that I know that it has shaped me. Occasionally I do spin a bit of vinyl on the old turn table. Now back to the polka. The polka I'm talking about is the Beer Barrel Polka. For most of us Steeler fans I know that you've heard this song. Actually there probably not many of you who haven't heard it. According to http://www.orfea.cz/festivalova-kancelar/docs/skoda-lasky_en.pdf this polka was written in 1927 by Jaromír Vejvoda. In it's 82 years it has been in 136 movies and TV shows and has been sung in 16 different languages. During WW2 it was played all over the world. It was also proclaimed by President Eisenhower to be his favorite song. I must say that every time I crack open a cold High Life and I see the Girl on the Moon perched on the neck I think of this song. So without further adieu I bring to you the Beer Barrel Polka sung by the Andrews Sisters. My favorite. I hope you enjoy a little beer entertainment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrDSMBJ7AAc

Enjoy.
